How does Stakeholder Centered Coaching work?

I use Marshall Goldsmith's Stakeholder Centered Coaching, the world's most researched executive coaching methodology. The process begins with structured 360° feedback from your key stakeholders, defines a clear and specific development goal, and keeps those stakeholders actively involved throughout. Progress is measured continuously. The focus is not reflection for its own sake but observable change that produces real business results.

How is this different from other coaching formats?

Most coaching processes treat leadership development as a private affair. Progress is rarely tracked, and if measured at all, it relies on self-assessment. Stakeholder Centered Coaching works fundamentally differently. The process focuses on concrete, observable change. The people who experience the leadership every day are brought in as active development partners, and that is precisely why the change sticks. Progress is measured in a structured way throughout, and the engagement includes a results guarantee.

How long does coaching typically take, and how much time does it require?

A typical engagement runs 12 months. Building new habits takes time, and change only counts when the people around you believe it is real, which takes longer still. A 6-month engagement is available for leaders with a more focused development goal. Sessions run 20 to 60 minutes, weekly or biweekly, and are deliberately designed to fit a senior leader's schedule.

What is asked of stakeholders, and how do we get their buy-in?

Stakeholders invest roughly 20 minutes at the start for the initial assessment, a few minutes monthly for brief feedback, and two short surveys at the midpoint and at the end. Their role is framed as that of development partners, which most find meaningful rather than burdensome, particularly once they begin to experience the change.

Where do coaching sessions take place?

I work with clients across Switzerland and selectively with leaders internationally. Sessions take place primarily online, at your organisation, or at my premises in Zurich – whatever serves the process and your situation best. Coaching sessions are conducted in German and English.

Why do I need to involve my stakeholders?

Because they are the ones who experience your leadership every day. Their perspective reveals what you cannot see on your own, and involving them turns them into active supporters of your development, which makes the change far more likely to last. Sharing your development goal with the people around you is not a weakness. It is what real leadership looks like.

What if I am not comfortable to involve my stakeholders?

The methodology depends on it. We can start small, but if you are fundamentally resistant to the idea, the timing may simply not be right yet.

What results can I expect, and how are they measured?

A study across 11,000 leaders showed that 95% of those who completed the process were rated as significantly more effective by their stakeholders. Improvement is measured by the people who work with you every day, not self-reported. In practice, leaders who engage consistently see stronger team relationships, clearer communication, greater influence and better decisions, typically within 6 to 9 months. Progress is assessed through structured stakeholder feedback at regular intervals. The final judgment belongs to the stakeholders, not to the coach.

What happens if the leader does not improve?

You only pay at the end if the agreed outcomes are achieved. The results guarantee is built into the 12-month engagement precisely because I am confident in the process.

How do you handle sensitive information that comes up in sessions?

What is discussed in sessions stays between coach and coachee. Stakeholders are involved in measuring change, not in the content of conversations. The only information that flows to the organization is what has been agreed upfront: the development goal and the progress assessments.

What does the engagement cost?

For over 20 years, I built my career in the corporate world: from PR consultant to Chief Communication Officer and member of executive teams at global technology companies in Switzerland. Today I work as an executive coach in Zurich, bringing that firsthand C-level experience into every engagement.
